The hashtag #Alexandria_Sinking twitter users created and in which they shared scenes of all around the coastal city of Alexandria which was hit since Tuesday with the second wave of heavy showers in two weeks. The first wave has hit Alexandria since two weeks where on Saturday 24th of October and pools of rainwater filled Alexandria streets causing the death five people. A new Alexandria governor replaced the governor Hani el-Messeri after he submitted his resignation following the crisis. Many twitter users criticized the poor government handling of the disaster saying that, the resignation of el-Messeri didn’t save Alexandria, following the heavy showers on Tuesday November 3rd which prompted the Alexandria governorate announced that Thursday will be an official day off. The stormy weather has left at least 12 dead on Wednesday – 11 in three villages in Beheira and one in Alexandria. And many streets have been reportedly flooded with rain water, prompting Sewage Company in Alexandria to deploy 14 pumping vehicles to drain the water.

In the northern regions the rain flooded many houses in the city, and the traffic was disrupted, while most of the deaths took place around Alexandria in the Baheira region and many victims died as a result of electrocution while others due to the collapse of the ceilings of their building and one died drowning in a drain; the only fatality in Alexandria this week died after an aging building collapsed. Dozens of Alexandria residents in the Nozha Airport neighbourhood blocked the Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road to protest the flooding of their homes. The angry residents called on governorate officials to deploy water sucking trucks to remove the water from the ground floors of buildings. A number of schools were also flooded. The Meteorological Authority warned of “unstable weather” hitting the city until Friday. Cairo is also seeing a drop in temperature since Wednesday.
