The brain is an organ that serves as the center of the nervous system in all vertebrate and most invertebrate animals. Only a few invertebrates such as sponges, jellyfish, adult sea squirts and starfish do not have a brain; diffuse or localized nerve nets are present instead. The brain is located in the head, usually close to the primary sensory organs for such senses as vision, hearing, balance, taste, and smell. The brain is the most complex organ in a vertebrate’s body. In a typical human, the cerebral cortex (the largest part) is estimated to contain 15–33 billion neurons, each connected by synapses to several thousand other neurons.
However the brain has many “funny” facts that we may oversee or simply not believe but are now proven; we are going to list some of them;
After 10 minutes of watching yourself in the mirror your brain gets bored and due to that it makes you see monsters or “unreal” creatures.
The weight of the human brain is about 3 lbs.
The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain and makes up 85% of the brain’s weight.
Your skin weighs twice as much as your brain.
The brain’s gray matter is made up of neurons, which gather and transmit signals.
The white matter is made up of dendrites and axons, which create the network by which neurons send their signals.
Your brain uses 20% of the total oxygen in your body.
As with oxygen, your brain uses 20% of the blood circulating in your body.
If your brain loses blood for 8 to 10 seconds, you will lose consciousness.
Information can be processed as slowly as 0.5 meters/sec or as fast as 120 meters/sec (about 268 miles/hr).
