Have you ever wanted to express your emotions regarding your Facebook friends’ posts, with more than just “liking” them? The posts might have made you angry, amazed, etc… Now it’s possible to express 6 reactions with Facebook’s new Reactions addition.
Facebook is offering six Reactions: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry. This might be better and might improve the “liking” option, since many posts would require sympathy and a sad face rather than just a “like”. For example, if a member of your friends of facebook’s family deceased, it would be rather so much better to press on the “Sad” reaction instead of a “like”.
Reactions are basically animated emojis that you can access by long-pressing the Like button in the Facebook app. You can also use the feature from your desktop by hovering over the Like button with your mouse pointer.
According to Facebook, reactions to Reactions in test groups has been positive. Product Manager at Facebook Sammy Krug said that “We have been testing Reactions in a few markets since last year, and have received positive feedback so far. Today, we’re excited to offer it to everyone who uses Facebook around the world. We will continue learning and listening to feedback to make sure we have a set of reactions that will be useful for everyone. We hope you enjoy the new Reactions!”
He also explained how a reaction could be added: “To add a reaction, hold down the Like button on mobile or hover over the Like button on desktop to see the reaction image options, then tap either Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad or Angry”.
Now, each one of us might “like” or “dislike” Facebook’s new option, and we of course have our own reasons for using it or not. What about Facebook’s reasons for adding”Reactions”?
Krug says that “Everyday, people come to Facebook to discover what’s happening in their world and around the world, and to share all kinds of things, whether that’s updates that are happy, sad, funny or thought-provoking. News Feed is the central way you can get updates about your friends, family and anything else that matters to you, and the central place to have conversations with the people you care about. We’ve been listening to people and know that there should be more ways to easily and quickly express how something you see in News Feed makes you feel. That’s why today we are launching Reactions, an extension of the Like button, to give you more ways to share your reaction to a post in a quick and easy way”.
