The month of Ramadan, which is celebrated by a large population around the world by fasting from dusk till dawn, is accompanied by delicious food. Unfortunately, we eat sweets as much as we like, but sometimes we ignore the health effects or the calories we are gaining.

Why is the topic of sugary stuff significant in Ramadan?… simply because visits between friends and relatives increase, especially after Iftar (eating after a long fasting day, at sunset). In this article, we chose to highlight the “sweet-tooth” in this long “season”. However, you can stay updated with our topics and read what the next post will be about. Hint: “Souhour”.

“greenarea.info” conducted a phone call interview with the dietitian Dr. Myriam Chehab, who informed us about the calories some of the most Ramadan sweets contain.

Chehab told us that she advises her patients on diet to eat lots of fruits if they were fasting, and to drink lots of juice, limiting the amount of sweets eaten to once per week. People who are not on a diet, however, should not eat more than one portion of “Kallaj” per day, since it contains 300 to 400 calories. You can also eat 2 “katayef”, knowing that each contains around 120 calories.

We should note that Kallaj nearly contains the highest amount of calories between Ramadan sweets, since it is fried. So it is up to you. Do you choose to eat yummy sweets while caring about your health and shape at the same time, or do you choose to ignore all that?

Now you know that all the other fried sweets contain more calories.
Choose careully, and enjoy your food.
