Usually, a bride requests gold jewelry or money from her husband, a tradition that prevails in many places in the world, including India. This is where a bride surprised everyone with her “environmental action” on her wedding day.
22-year old Priyanka Bhadoriya, a science graduate and resident of Kisipura village in Bhind district of India, requested 10,000 saplings to be planted.
Her husband, Ravi Chauhan, responded to her request by saying “I am happy knowing that she is more concerned about the environment than her own wealth.”
Many media outlets around the world wanted to interview the “green bride”. She told The Hindustan Times: “I have been planting saplings from the age of 10. When my marriage was fixed on Earth Day, I was very happy environment reminded me of my emotional bonding with it.”
Bhadoriya’s paternal house will be planted by 5,000 saplings, and the rest will grow at her in-laws’ place.
The couple said that they will plant saplings each year on their wedding anniversary.
We can be inspired by the 22-year old’s actions, and adopt environmental actions in our daily lives.
