Walking on water is not possible, we all know. We just hear about walking in water in myths and fables. However, this has become possible after the famous artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude created a large-scale installation located in Northern Italy.

The art work was made in Lake Iseo, for the location of a 3-kilometer-long walkway called ‘Floating Piers. They chose this lake after scoping out different bodies of water.

The exhibit, which is open until July 3rd for anyone to experience this “weird” phenomenon, includes a walkway that moves to the ebb and flows to the current. It is comprised of 10,000 square meters of yellow fabric that was sewn on top of a floating dock system.

If you go there, you can walk from location to location since this huge work of art connects Sulzano, Monte Isola and San Paolo.

You might be wondering: How is it possible? what is the walkway made of?… Well, floating polyethylene cubes, which took 8 months to make, create the feeling of walking on water. Also, the fabric transforms to different shades of red and gold that respond to the environment, mainly sunlight and water.

The cubes were laid out first and then the fabric was sewn on afterwards.

“Those who experience The Floating Piers will feel like they are walking on water – or perhaps the back of a whale,” said Christo. “The light and water will transform the bright yellow fabric to shades of red and gold throughout the sixteen days.”

But what will happen to the materials used after taking down the installation?… The couple thought of Eco- friendly solutions, and they will recycle the material after being done with the installation.
