Chocolate lovers, this might be sad news for you; Kinder chocolate contains cancerous products, according to a German Watch dog, Food Watch.
That chocolate brand which is considered a “favourite” for many children, is now considered “dangerous”.
The German watchdog tested the chocolate bars for “mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons” (MOAH); a byproduct of the oil refining process. Unfortunately, they found high levels of it in products from Ferrero, Lindt and Rübezhali.
The watchdog claims that they told the producers concerned about the test results before they published them and called for a public recall – which was refused.
John Hegg from Food Watch says: “The manufacturer is guilty of gross negligence,” adding “Instead of clearing the dangerous candy from the shelves and warning consumers, they (haven’t).”
According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), MOAHs are ‘likely’ to be ‘carcinogenic and mutagenic’.
“Ferrero” announced in a statement that “traces of mineral oil ‘exist nearly everywhere in the environment’ and could have been transferred into the food via recycled packaging, printing inks or transportation”.
The statement continued: “At Ferrero, together with all our supply chain partners, we are working on technical solutions to minimise these omnipresent substances as much as possible and to avoid transfer and migration to food.”
