I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! bosses are desperate to sign up Nigel Farage and are offering £250,000.

The ex-UKIP leader stepped down after successfully campaigning for the UK to leave the EU, saying he wanted his life back.

But a source said: “It would be TV gold to see Farage chomping on kangaroo anus or a turkey testicle in a Bushtucker trial.”

ITV, who like to include a politician in the show, are pulling out all the stops to secure the 52-year-old Brexiteer.

Former MPs Edwina Currie, Lembit Opik and Neil Hamilton, who appeared with wife Christine, were all huge hits.

“Throwing a politician into the mix always makes fantastic TV,” added the source. “Edwina’s explosive rows with campmates was compulsive viewing, and Lembit’s trials were a ratings hit.

“This year, everyone is talking about Brexit , so producers are desperate to snare one of the biggest names from the Leave campaign for the jungle to make it the most talked about series yet.

“Farage is a win with British voters – so producers think viewers would be keen to pick up the phone and nominate him to be covered in cockroaches or fish guts.

“Besides that, his controversial views are bound to see him come to blows with the other stars. It’s easy to see why ITV are desperate to sign him up.”

Producers might have trouble coaxing Farage back into the limelight, after he quit the political party he has fronted on and off since 2006 on Monday, telling supporters: “I want my life back.”

Since then, Farage has said he wanted to star in an EU Committee special version ofCelebrity Big Brother , saying: “Now that would be very tempting. I would like to torture them, mentally, slowly, for all the bad things they’ve done.”

Speaking of reality TV, he said: “I’m known for saying what I think and not holding back. If I got into one of those situations it could be tricky.”

Tory MP Nadine Dorries was suspended by the Tory party for signing up for the show in 2012, taking her away from her Mid Bedfordshire constituency and the Commons for a month.

Former Labour MP and TV host Robert Kilroy-Silk and failed London mayor candidate and Lib Dem peer Brian Paddick have also starred. Last year, Susannah Constantine and Chris Eubank received £200,000.

But ITV might go much higher for Farage. Spencer Matthews would have received up to £500,000 had he not pulled out in the early stages last year.

And producers have offered Weakest Link host Anne Robinson £500,000 to appear, but she refuses.
