In his recent speech, Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah spoke about the Litani river pollution and its catastrophic state, and demanded immediate treatment of this file. He also demanded holding accountable all violators and owners of Sanders.

Perhaps, it is one of the rare times that Sayyed Nasrallah raises environmental issues to this level, especially in light of his party’s political and military priorities, but “Hezbollah” is present to a great deal, in the region where Litani river passes. That region is suffering from massive environmental problems, no one has heeded earlier. Some of those accused for the environmental violations are supporters of the broad alliance.

The minister of Environment Mohammad Mashnouq did not pay attention to this part of the speech, despite its environmental importance, and he preferred to concentrate on other aspects of the speech, mainly those related to Saudi Arabia.

The problem with this approach is that it actually reflects the way officials deal with the country’s issues, even if they just deal with them theoretically. The Environment Minister is responsible, along with others in the government, for the miserable reality that the waste file has reached today, knowing that two years is long enough to bear the brunt of what happened.

The minister of environment himself, is responsible, along with others in the government, about the Janneh dam file, and everything related to it.
The Environment Minister, and other ministers in the government, are responsible for ignoring what is happening in the Litani River and the Qaraon Lake. They are responsible for approaching this file from the financial aspect only.

The Government, whose Prime Minister admits every day and night, that it is a failure, is responsible for the catastrophic level that the environmental situation in Lebanon has reached. The Cabinet is continuing in the same approach and launching various types of quotas in all projects, and the environment has the biggest share of them these days.
A political speech is rising, due to awareness or necessity, and on the other hand, an official-governmental action is decreasing due to awareness and interests.
