The sight of lanterns in the sky cannot be described in a few words. Just imagine 900 Chinese lanterns flying in the sky. This is what will happen at Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival. Just like every year, the street will light up all due to lanterns. But why am I writing about this? How is it related to the environment?… Here is the good news: All 900 lanterns will be LED lanterns.

The lanterns are designed and conceptualised by the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and are made by craftsmen from China. This year’s theme is “journey of re-discovery” which will explore the origins and history of the festival.

From September 3 to 30, the lanterns will be displayed at New Bridge Road, on top of Eu Tong Sen Street and South Bridge Road, to celebrate “The Mid-Autumn Festival”, which is a harvest festival celebrated by ethnic Chinese and Vietnamese people.
The festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese Han calendar and Vietnamese calendar (within 15 days of the autumnal equinox), on the night of the full moon between early September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.
