“The Daily Mail reported that crocodile hunters dived onto a 3.5-metre, three-legged saltwater crocodile named Dick Smith. The animal was caught by Australia Zoo’s expert team at Wenlock River on the Cape York Penninsula, in north Queensland.

The website describes the process going on in the video as a frightening moment, especially that “wranglers used ropes to restrain the beast as he went into a terrifying death roll to evade his captors”, The Daily mail mentioned.

The goal behind catching Dick Smith is research for The University of Queensland., knowing that the university has attached a tag to him (the crocodile) in 2013. The wanted to download data from the tag.

It was found out that the crocodile has lost an extra leg, and when he was first caught back in 2013, he has since grown an extra foot.

A post on Facebook was shared about the 11 feet and six inches or 3.5 metres wild animal. In order to share a photo of the capture, it took about four men to bring Dick Smith under control.

The Facebook post read: “Check out Australia Zoo’s expert team jumping “Dick Smith” the croc so The University of Queensland researchers could download the data from the tag they gave him”.

It added: “Crocs are still widely mysterious animals and there’s so much to learn about their movements and behavioural patterns. Our croc trips aim to study these apex predators in greater depth, so we can manage the relationship between them, humans and the environment better.”

It is amazing that after all the data was collected, the crocodile was released back into the wild.
