Did any individual, relevant authority, or did the Lebanese state itself assess the implications of its decisions regarding the “polluted” coastal landfills on the economy, especially that they cause lack of tourism in Sidon beach, by causing an environmental and social harm?
Of course not.
The entire state is united, and it has agreed on the importance and rightness of its environmental and garbage decisions, and their economic consequences, ranging from the tenders’ costs to deportation and burning, down to real estate expansion through sea reclamation, even if the latter turned into a dustbin, not allowing any more fishing, swimming or even looking at it (the sea).
Litani River’s pollution, and the politicians’ immersive happiness while talking about this disaster, since they only see the huge costs that are thrown for treatment, and they translate them in their brains as deals and profits, and not one of them asks, or raises the possibility of holding the river’s polluters accountable, be it the state, companies, individuals, municipalities and Sanders.
Summer is almost over, and pollution surrounds the country from its mountain tops to the deep sea, due to the official decisions that were made by irresponsible people. The catastrophe is that this is an ongoing path, that is deepening without any change!
A polluted political class, and there are many proofs on this point, but today, these politicians are polluting everything in the country under green and environmental slogans.
