The picture above was taken by Roger Allen for the Daily Mail. It’s caption explains a lot: ” Tragic: One of the saddest creatures in the collection is a deer called Bambi. Her only fawn died 24 hours before the rescue mission began, suffering terrible wounds after it tried to writhe under the fencing of its enclosure in a bid for freedom”. Bambi is one of many animals that were rescued from a zoo in Gaza, where they were almost dying.

The Daily Mail mentioned that “The animals’ suffering began two years ago when Israeli bombs, sealed borders and a lack of basic care for the zoo animals created a perfect storm of suffering for them.

Many news outlets mentioned that the animals were smuggled dug by Hamas, knowing that they are usually used to smuggle food and water, the basic needs for survival that Palestinians could not have do to the continuous Israeli occupation of their (Palestinians’) land.

The person who brought the animals to Gaza, however, intended to let Palestinians enjoy a distraction from their sad every day lives.

The 15 remaining animals rescued by the Four Paws international animal welfare group included a tiger, porcupines, an emu and five monkeys. They were moved on Wednesday. A baby deer that was to have made the journey died in “a desolate cage” last week, the organisation said.

In 2014, the animals suffered the most, since they had no food or water for 7 days in a row, due to war.

“I have lived and worked nine years in this zoo. I was connected to the animals more than I was to people. Today, I am forced to let them go so they can live better,” the owner of the zoo Mohammad Oweida, 26, told Reuters.

The sad animal lover said he would miss eight-year-old tiger Laziz the most, since whom he had raised him since the animal was a cub, adding: “I feel as if my soul has been taken away.”

The zoo had been displaying stuffed animals that died from starvation alongside live animals, who survived dire conditions and Israeli airstrikes of the Strip, which has been under blockade since 2007, RT mentioned.

There are many pictures of the starving animals on various websites, but we are sharing none. It is really sad to look at such suffering…. In Gaza, the animals as well are suffering the Israeli siege of Palestinian land.
