Air pollution in London is getting worse by the day, but “Uber” is now helping this lovely city fight a very serious problem (air pollution). How?… It has launched its new electric car service, by partnering with auto firms “Nissan” and “BYD” to launch a fleet of more than 50 fully electric cars on London’s streets by the end of September.
According to “Uber”, the move will help to tackle air pollution across the capital, lowering the amount of harmful CO2 in the atmosphere than can cause lethal respiratory diseases.
All about the new cars
- More than 60 per cent of all Uber journey miles in London already take place in hybrid cars
- The new cars, which produce zero emissions, have been offered to some of Uber’s top-rated drivers
- Their rides will be studied by the Energy Saving Trust (EST), which will investigate the feasibility of running large numbers of electric private hire vehicles in the UK.
If successful, Uber hopes to further expand its electric vehicle fleet to number hundreds of cars by next year.
Express quoted Jo Bertram, Regional General Manager of Uber, as saying that, “People already associate Uber with hybrid cars, but we now want to go a big step further with fully electric cars on the road from today.
