Sea vessels and amphibious vehicles will be delivering food, water and medicines to the Maritime Territories districts, hit by the Lionrock typhoon. Many settlements are cut off as the roads are destroyed and helicopters cannot take off in the bad weather conditions.
“Besides, we do not have communication with many settlements, thus we consider delivering humanitarian aid to the districts by amphibious vehicles,” the territory’s governor Vladimir Miklushevsky said during a conference call with Russia’s Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov on Sunday.
The Lionrock typhoon struck the Maritime Territory following a mighty cyclone, which brought with it heavy downpours on August 29-31. Meteorology services registered the precipitation as three times the monthly norm. The Emergency services announced that in the region, flooding engulfed more than 2,500 houses, including one hospital, four kindergartens, three schools and a post office. On Saturday, 166 dwellings saw flooding subside.
