China expanded the habitat of the giant panda by nearly 12 percent in the last decade with a total of 67 nature reserves, according to a national study published in February 2015. Some 1,864 pandas live in the Chinese regions of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu, according to a 2015 study.

The research, carried out over three years, found that 319 hydroelectric plants, 1,339 kilometers of roads, 268 kilometers of high voltage cables, 984 new residential areas, 479 mines and 25 attractions also threaten the reproduction and development the bears .
