The fruit terminal of the Port of Marin, operated by Davila Reefer Terminal, handles more than 115,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables per year, as highlighted by the Port Authority, adding that “the traffic volumes are growing every year and the forecast is that this trend will continue upward. “In fact, the port of the Pontevedra estuary is the main fruit port in the Atlantic Arc, since “it offers an integrated direct maritime connection, as well as storage, sorting and distribution services to the entire Peninsula, serving both the Spanish and Portuguese markets with fruit and vegetables imported from countries such as Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Guatemala, among others.”
Fruit is one of the main goods that the Port of Marin receives via the Panama Canal, and because of this it improved its infrastructure with a fruit terminal with 6 loading docks, 8 chambers, 1,000 air-conditioned square metres for sorting and distribution and 5,000 square metres adjoining, as well as 520 metres for docking in two docks and a 490 metre container terminal, more than 500 reefer connections and modern PIF facilities. The Port Authority stresses that the Port “has land connections with the national network of motorways and offers a 24 hour service 365 days a year.”
With the aim of presenting its services, boosting its traffic and attracting new customers, the Port of Marin has been present, with its president, José Benito Suárez Costa at the head, at the International Fair Fruit Attraction, which has attracted more than 1,200 exhibiting companies from 40 countries and about 55,000 visitors.
