Blackpool boasts seven miles of golden sands and a theme park on the doorstep – and now a new study has praised it for having the second best shoreline in the world.

It was pipped to the top spot by Dubai, while the Gulf of Mexico sailed in at third place.

The locations were rated based on the clarity of the horizon, sea colour, sand quality, cleanliness, interesting features, air quality and the weather.

The new study, commissioned by Royal Caribbean, was spearheaded by psychologist, Dr David Holmes.

He went about formulating a mathematical equation in a bid to scientifically prove which shoreline is the most seductive.

Helping with the prize-giving process, was London lifestyle and travel vlogger, Laila Swann.

The 24-year-old, who has travelled extensively thanks to her burgeoning social media following, said she was ‘proud’ to see Blackpool come second.
