Sukomi Company launched on Friday a 6.4 MW greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions power plant in Naameh landfill, upon the invitation of the Development and Construction Council. Water and Energy Minister, Arthur Nazarian, Agriculture Minister, Akram Chehayeb, and a number of other official figures and dignitaries attended the event.
“Nearly two decades ago, we were handed over this site, which was basically a bulk of crushers and sanders. I can confirm that throughout the many years of service, we have been more than keen on adopting the highest professional standards in our work, starting with the preparation of the location of the landfill and the process of soil protection via insulation and packaging, as well as continual observation. We have also supplied the leachate and gas networks, and implemented sanitary landfill practices,” Masira Sukkar said as delivering a word on the behalf of Sukomi.
“Sukomi company has been up to its pledge: it has produced electrical energy, and later next year, it will finish forestation works to completely fulfil its pledge,” he added.
“This is the first experience of this magnitude in Lebanon. We hope it turns out to be a positive precedent,” Sukkar added.
