Findings presented this month at the annual meeting of the British Ecological Society, reveal that adult reindeer have shrunk by about 12 percent over the years. Knowing that they were about 106 pounds in 2010, compared to 121 pounds back when they first started measuring in 1994, this is considered a very alarming indication.
Professor Steve Albon, an ecologist at the James Hatton Institute in Aberdeen, said his the research some of the critical changes facing Arctic species.
“While I doubt we will see the extinction of reindeer across their circumpolar range, Santa may need more to pull the laden sleigh,” he joked to “The Telegraph“.
Santa Clause’ reindeer are a very important imaginary icon, and it is said that they help him transport his gifts. There are usually 8 reindeer tied to a sleigh Santa uses to travel and send his gifts.
The name Rudolph, however, has originated due to myths and stories told about reindeer and Santa Clause, where the name of the reindeer was “Rudolph” the red-nosed reindeer.
How can we help Rudolph though?…. Just by trying to stop the reasons of climate change.
