Space X was a milestone in the space industry, launching a Falcon 9 rocket that has flown before, a key step in the quest of billionaire businessman Elon Musk to reduce the cost of space flight. The rocket took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to put a communications satellite into orbit for satellite operator SES SA, based in Luxembourg.

SpaceX, previously known as Space Exploration Technologies Corp, made history in December 2015 when it landed an orbital rocket for the first time, a feat it has repeated seven times since. With the re-use of rockets, SpaceX seeks to reduce its costs by about 30%, according to the company said.

The company has indicated that the value of operating a Falcon 9 is 62 million dollars, But has not yet announced the price for flying a reconditioned rocket. SpaceX also works on a passenger space vehicle and two unidentified tourists have already signed up for a future trip around the moon. The long-term goal of the company, according to Musk, is to transport people to and from the planet Mars.
