It seems that pollution of the rivers is moving from one region to another, with the absence of plans and projects that this water wealth is supposed to be away from the causes of pollution, especially since there are no sewage networks so far in many villages and towns in various districts in Lebanon, and refining, which exacerbates the problem of pollution with its consequences on the health and natural environment of the rivers that are supposed to be aesthetic and tourist attractions including tourist resorts, while devoting and promoting the concept of environmental tourism.
We are still facing this scandalous series from the south to the north of the coastline, mountain and Bekaa. However, what we witness from violations of the water wealth will henceforth be monitored and followed up by the Lebanese Green Party and other relevant environmental associations, in coordination and cooperation with our website greenarea.info
It should be noted in this regard that “the Green Party of Lebanon,” inaugurated a cultural center environmentally typically in Kornet Shahwan – Metn, in the aim of promoting environmental culture step, based on science, studies and research that will contribute to the design and development of a new policy to provide a database given by the Ministry of Environment, to form a “conscious cooperation in the face of the environmental risks that threaten us,” as the party president Nada Zaarour explained to greenarea.info, adding that “Green party / Green Reporter is a free application on Smart phones reporting for any offense or violation of the environment and nature, and work on transferring scientific news, in an accurate and comprehensive manner in cooperation with greenarea.info website.
In the course of following up on the reports of the “green reporter” about environmental violations, greenarea.info was informed about the presence of pollution, and we received a scandalous picture of a sewer pipe flowing directly into the Rashiin River – Zgharta district with an appeal to shed light on this issue.
This river is located in the northern province of Lebanon (Zgharta district), and crosses the municipalities of Rashiin, Achash, Ardah, Harf Ardah, Morbata, Qadiriyah, Kfar Dalakus and Wozgharta, and it is still a tourist and aesthetic destination famous for the chain of restaurants spread along its side of Lebanese and foreigners, Pollution seems to have spread to it as the rest of the rivers in Lebanon.
It may seem to us that it is a clean river especially in the winter, but what is hidden by the water is exposed by the unpleasant odors caused by manure, sewage, animal dung, olive zest, etc. In the summer, the scene is even more blatant. It shows the extent of recklessness, indifference to the pollution of the river and the extent of inaction in the palm of the hand contaminated by the concerned authorities and responsible for the treatment of pollution.
Active member of the Association “Zgharta tomorrow” Antoine Yamin told greenarea.info that “the river is in fact two rivers with their source in the mountains of the Dhinniyyeh, and that meet in Zgharta in the section coming from Ehden and Beshri to form the Abu Ali River,” He continued: “We have raised our voice and have invited to a protest on February 4th after promises from officials in the region to start the work by the beginning of 2017. After this call, the municipality announced that the project was approved a day before we stood up. ”
Yamin said: “We have followed our movement and demanded that the municipality of Zgharta-Ehden disclose the details of the project of the drainage of the river and its size and the towns covered by the time period, and to this day we have not seen any actual work on the ground and what we have received is still a promise, but they seem to lack the clear plan in the work, which was not seen by any of the officials until today to show the seriousness of their promises. ”
“It is the result of sewage mainly for the towns along the river that shed sewerage in the river, olive zest during the olive season, dairy factories, farms and animal dung,” Yamin continued. “As an NGO “we have inexpensive ideas and plans that we can work through, but we lack the cooperation of officials seriously and clearly to address this growing problem,” he concluded.
From his part, the activist Pierre Doueihy from “Zaghrata tomorrow” told greenarea.info that “After our meeting with the Union of Zgharta municipalities, a project to treat pollution in the river was commissioned by the state, although there was a mistake in the name of the river that came on behalf of Subcontracting (Joeit River) , in addition to the fact that the President of the Union has the subcontracting map without any details, and without any clear study, ” Doueihy continued:” the project seemed incomplete and does not include close areas, so we called for an integrated plan with clear and comprehensive vision to start serious work on the ground in our next meeting with the President of the Union of Zgharta municipalities. Doueihy confirmed that the project was given to the company Al – Mustafa worth one billion five hundred and eighty million Lebanese Lira. ”
