The Minister of Public Works and Transport Youssef Fenianos opened the Marine Science and Technology Institute (MARSATI) on the Batroun beach to graduate officers and members of the Internal Security Forces for the duties of the captain of the boat, security missions and Rabbaniyah, marine officers and engineers qualified to work on high seas vessels.

The Director of the Institute, Mr. Imad Islam, spoke about the role assigned to him and he attached great importance to maritime education and training, He spoke about IMO, its oversight role and the implementation of the requirements of international agreements. He pointed out the role of maritime institutes “which are the link between the International Maritime Organization and the standard standards issued by it and contained in the agreements with the various maritime transport elements in the country.” He explained the objectives, work and services of the Institute.

Al-Qaisi
Then was the speech of the Director General of Land and Maritime Transport Engineer Abdul Hafiz Al Qaisi who thanked everyone who contributed, helped and supported the realization of the dream of establishing this institute. The project includes the administration building, 4 educational buildings, a simulation building, a training workshop for the maintenance of ship engines and facilities, a housing building for students and students, as well as specialized buildings for maritime practical training. He stressed the importance of completing the implementation of the Institute’s facilities and equipment in terms of opening new horizons of work in the field of maritime transport and navigation, maintenance and establishment of vessels and development of marine services.
He said: “The global maritime sector is suffering from a shortage of trained human cadres, where this shortage amounts to about 20,000 jobs of marine officers and engineers and the weakness of this number of sailors and sailors. They have broad prospects in the areas of work. ”

He concluded: “We are working under the direction of Minister Fenianos for a homeland that embraces all its children and works fairly for them and provides them with a decent living.” This Maritime Institute will put Lebanon on the world map of distinguished countries in the field of transport and maritime navigation. The science and knowledge that is famous at the academic level to be our ambassadors from MARSATI to the maritime world. ”

In parallel, the Institute of Marine Science and Technology has completed the modernization of maritime curricula in accordance with the Manila amendments to the STCW Convention. The Institute has not ceased to develop and expand both in education and training in harbors and ports: From the establishment of the permanent headquarters of the Institute, which is the building that embraces us today. Followed by the recommendations of the year 2015, the elements of the Lebanese maritime transport, the most important of which is the following:
The Institute is supported by the Institute to coordinate with all elements of maritime transport from harbors, shipping companies and maritime agents with an umbrella of maritime will to restore Lebanon’s position in the field. “The Lebanese have long been known for their passion for the sea.”

He added: “International certificates have been recognized internationally, and the courses were completed and the services of the Institute were provided to students from the nationalities of seven Arab countries, whose total number reached 4344.”
“What is required is the implementation of international requirements to equip the Institute with technical equipment and complete the space to create a university-level academy in navigation and marine engineering after a study of 4 years in one of the following two areas”Our aim remains to spread marine culture and awareness, to ensure the safety of life at sea and to preserve the marine environment through the adoption of the highest standards of training, certification and training for seafarers.” In order to meet our strategic objectives, we will continue to modernize the Institute to become equipped with the latest internationally approved marine navigation equipment. “We will spare no effort to provide the environment for the Institute to receive the largest number of students. Shields and certificates The certificates were distributed to officers and members of the Special Security Forces of the internal security forces – the Panthers, the officers and the members of the North Lebanon Shore detachment, and to the naval officers, officers and engineers qualified to work on high seas vessels – Othman, Khoury, Hashim, Fakhoury, Hark and the head of the maritime agents’ union.
