French President Emmanuel Macaron said the Paris climate agreement could not be reversed despite US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from it.
“The Paris agreement can not be undone and will be implemented because it is our responsibility,” Macron said after meeting with Paris Mayor Ann Hidalgo and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the French capital.
China, Russia and India have confirmed their commitment to the agreement, Macron said.
“The Americans do not need (the administration) in Washington to fulfill their commitments to the Paris agreement and the Americans will not let Washington stand in the way of meeting them,” Bloomberg said.
“I want the world to know that the United States will live up to its obligations under the Convention and that we will strive to remain part of the Paris Convention through partnership between cities, states and companies.”
