Races to promote an ecological conscience towards the protection of Cyprus’ forests will take place in the Troodos mountains on June 11, organiser Dro.Me.A Racing has announced.

“Dro.Me.A Racing is about to set pulses racing and get adrenaline levels soaring in a unique and thrilling experience in the great outdoors, with the breath-taking Troodos mountains forming a magical backdrop for two upcoming running events on June 11th 2017,” the announcement said.

“Runners will compete through shady pine clad Troodos natural trails, heading for the island’s highest heights, with the 15-km race giving all participants the chance to take in spectacular views from above as they reach the peak of Mt Olympus, towering almost 2000 metres above sea level.”

Apart from promoting an ecological conscience towards the protection of Cyprus’ forests the events emphasise the importance of helping those in need by sponsoring the ‘fun raising’ charity organisation.

Additionally, it aims to foster opportunities for social sport and adventure in the natural environment.

The events will start and finish at Troodos square and include a Troodos marathon, a 15km green race, a 5km Nutribakes Pine-Tree charity-run and a 600 metres children’s race.

Due to the rocky terrain and high altitude, only runners over the age of 18 are eligible to take part in the marathon and 15km race.

Registrations for the marathon, 15km and 5km must be conducted online at www.dromearacing.com.

The children’s race will see on-the-spot registrations on the day of the event.

Garmin Cyprus is the main sponsor of the marathon, with Ice Power Cold Gel sponsoring the 15km race and Nutribakes sponsoring the 5km charity run.

Cablenet is the main sponsor of Dro.Me.A Racing 2017, while the upcoming event is supported by the CSO and Webarts, under the auspices of amateur sports association Koeas.
