Dubai’s Sustainable City has kicked off operations of a solar installation that will eventually produce up to 10 MW of power at maximum capacity.
Completion of the first phase of the project has seen 24,170 solar panels installed so far. The next phase will see installation of a further 15,000 solar panels as it builds to a total goal of 40,000 solar panels, estimated to produce around 16GWh per year, reports Smart Cities World.
The photovoltaic (PV) modules provided by Trina Solar are set to power several facilities, including 500 residential villas, a school and leisure complexes, including a swimming pool and an equestrian club and track.

Given the harsh environmental conditions in the Middle East, the installation will be made up of Duomax panels – a solution renowned for its durability and reliability.
The panels feature what is said to be a first-of-type frameless design, ensuring no dust accumulation and requiresminimumamount of cleaning, thereby adhering to the city’s sustainable andenvironmentfriendlydesign standards. The dual glass design of promises the project design life of 30 years backedwithTrina’s performance warranty.
Built by Diamond Developers, one of the first companies in Dubai to enter the freehold property and real estate development industry since the introduction of freehold property ownership in 2002, the Sustainable City is billed as Middle East’s first operational sustainable community.
It is built on a five million square foot complex 18 miles from Dubai City and expected to host a population of around 2,000.
