The Youth Loves Egypt (YLE) Foundation participated in a preparatory session for the third round of the United Nations Environment Assembly of the UN Environment Program (UNEA-3) on Wednesday. The program itself is scheduled for December 4-6 in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme, “Towards a Pollution-Free Planet.”
The YLE stressed that civil society organizations urgently need support and training to be able to deal with different environmental issues.
Ahmed Fathi, head of the YLE, said that the preparatory session discussed a number of suggestions and solutions to stop the use of plastic. The meeting’s outcome will be presented during the upcoming meeting of African environment ministers.
Fathi met with Erik Solheim, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). They discussed a number of topics that the YLE seeks to implement in Egypt to protect the environment and raise awareness among citizens.
Fathi suggested establishing a network, which would involve all African and Arab countries facing pollution, especially plastic waste.
During the session, the YLE presented a clip about its campaign in Egypt to collect plastic waste on the shores of the Red Sea, under the theme “Clean Islands … Red Sea Free of Plastic”. The campaign was highly appreciated by the participants in the UN session.
