The most common question for years, and which is increasing now, is what are we doing here? Is the issue of survival and continuity linked to belonging, to interest, or to habit? Are we actually in a homeland, for the inadmissibility to ask such a question? Five years prior to the Taif Agreement, and in a national moment, I wrote about immigration, and the first I attacked were my friends who have decided to leave and search for their personal choices outside the country. I also did not exclude the rest who stayed here, and I thought that the dream and the cause are greater than personal issues. Today, when we meet, we discover that no one has a clear answer over which options were better or most successful? It is an outdated country that is sacked by its leaders, and whoever has a sense of high responsibility towards external threats does not want or cannot pay attention to issues inside the country, meaning the human himself, who does not steal like many others do, and longs for change in a sea of sectarianism, along with the interests of the parish, and the spoils of the state. This kind of citizen wants to quickly compensate what has been lost. The others, on the other hand, who are from various backgrounds, are the ones who have led the country to its current condition All we see is failure in the nation, politics, administration, and economy, along with failure in the continuation of a minimum of chaos, starting from maintenance to tenders. Whoever fails leaves or resigns, or says words that are meaningless in the Lebanese dictionary; there is no accountability or reproach, but new opportunities given, at a time when people’s hemorrhage to migrate continues, and at a time when the country’s economy is hemorrhaged by its exit from the production circuit, and politics hemorrhage is by staying away from policy making or public interest. As for hemorrhaging the environment or looting it by all the meanings and standards, then it is considered no more than a luxury in the practical sense among Lebanese officials, and in order to change this view, there is a long and tough road, which no one of the leaders seems ready to go through yet.
