A security source told The Daily Star the thieves entered the office of Tannourine’s CEO in Jisr al-Basha, east of Beirut, by knocking down a section of the wall. Instead of breaking into the safe, which contained about LL30,000,000 ($20,000) in cash and $30,000 in checks, they lifted it through the hole, loaded it into a delivery truck and took off. The truck was found later Tuesday under a bridge in Sfeir, an area in the southern suburbs of Beirut, but the thieves remain at large. The operation was carried out at 3 a.m. The concierge told investigators he witnessed the theft but did not intervene because he feared being attacked. He was detained upon the request of investigators. The Daily Star
