A wheel chair is originally a tool that allows some people, those who lack the ability to walk for a short period of time or on the long run, to move. This product has been developing throughout the years, from a seat with two wheels, to a sofa with a motor and a steering wheel that allows people to move faster than the ones walking on two feet. However, the problem that was still existing is what would they do when they encounter stairs, and the answer to that is not speed nor force, the ones who were able to supply this demand were students. It started as their Final project, calling this wheel chair “scalevo” which is a combination between a wheel chair and Segway. Using gyroscopic technology, similar to a Segway in “balance mode,” the design makes it easy to rotate on the spot and quickly change direction. On flat ground, the wheelchair can move at about 10 kilometers per hour. However, the most impressive feature of the Scalevo chair is its ability to ascend and descend stairs with a slope between 17 to 34 degrees. It is a revolutionary innovation in this industry. This product was developed by 10 students from the swiss federal institute of technology and the Zurich University of the Arts.
