A total solar eclipse is happening on March 9. Many people around the world are waiting for it. This event occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, and thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth.

As soon as we published the news, referring to the NASA eclipse website, a number of Lebanese people were asking whether this event will affect our country or not.

Greenarea contacted the astronomical expert Majdi Saad, who confirmed that “there is nothing to talk about, since the event is happening in other parts of the world, and mainly, in the pacific region”.

Will is affect us in any way? The expert affirms “No. Lebanon will not be affected by this event”, adding that “there is nothing distinctive about it, since solar and lunar eclipses happen every year”. He explained about the 3 types of eclipses that happen: partial, total, and annular”, saying that they come in solar cycles.

On the other hand, he mentioned what is considered a “distinctive” astronomical event which happened last last year, when the planet Venus passed in front of the sun.
