World Migratory Bird Day was launched in 2006, as a campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds. This year, the World Migratory Bird Day website, is asking for domestic and international laws to stop the illegal killing, taking, and trade of these birds.
Reasons for killing these birds vary from one country to another, but in all cases, they are all unfair and illegal acts. Some uses of these birds include: recreational activities, organized crime, and traditional practice.

Fortunately, awareness on the importance of these birds is increasing, and people have been expressing their concern over the endangerment of migratory birds.
Many social media users have been posting on their social media pages their thoughts on the World Migratory Bird Day. Twitter users, however, were tweeting photos on this occasion, while others just posted how they were participating in the international event by using the hashtag #WMBD2016.
