Many countries around the world are celebrating the International Museum Day. Lebanon, for example, has announced that all the museums will be open for the public for free today.
International Museum Day has been organized by the International Council of Museums ever since the year 1977.
The theme of 2016 International Museum Day will be Museums and Cultural Landscapes, which is also the theme of the General Conference, to be held in Milan, Italy from 3 to 9 July 2016.
The objective of International Museum Day, however, is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”
Participation in International Museum Day is growing among museums all over the world. In 2015, more than 35,000 museums participated in the event in some 145 countries.
You can find the activities in your country marking this day, on the interactive map provided by International Council of Museums’ website.

“I want my museum to be a single block, a labyrinth, a great surrealist object. It will be totally theatrical museum. The people who come to see it will leave with the sensation of having had a theatrical dream”, Salvador Dali has said.
If you admire fine art, ceramics, metalwork, jewelry, natural history, archaeology, ethnography, local history and industrial history, then you have to visit the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in Birmingham, England.
