Environment Minister of Lebaon Mohammad Machnouk clarified in a statement today the reasons that led to conducting two studies on the environmental impact of the Janna Dam.
He explained that, according to the law, no project could be executed before the study of its environmental impact or before the approval of the study by the Ministry of Environment.
Machnouk then indicated that the first study on the Janna dam was conducted in 2014 and included several gaps. It was reviewed upon the request of the Ministry of Environment, and the amended version was submitted subsequently.
“Unfortunately, some environmental threats are still there (…). The second study thus remains in force, but the work of the dam must stop until these threats are eliminated,” he said.
