The opening of the US market for the export of Spanish stone-fruit, of the Argentinian marker for onions and garlic, or the Brazilian one for strawberries and blueberries, are some of the developments that were discussed at the meeting held on Wednesday by the Working Group for Fruits and Vegetables, created under the Plan for the Internationalization of the Agro-food Sector of the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture.
In this eighth meeting of the Group, whose main goal is to analyse and prioritise the negotiation processes for the opening of new markets for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, the focus was on the documents outlining the phytosanitary requirements set by the markets mentioned above, considered a priority, as well as the status of the same for other not as important markets.
In the specific case of the United States, it is already possible to export apricots and avocados under the agreement signed by APHIS and FEPEX, which has involved the creation by FEPEX of the Trust Fund required by the US administration. Other pending negotiations with this country involve peaches, nectarines and plums, cherries, pears, apples and strawberry plants.
The meeting also served to discuss the opening of the Chinese market for the export of Spanish peaches and plums, already approved by the protocol signed between the Chinese authorities and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture in April this year.
Exports to this country are only awaiting the visit of inspectors of the Quality Inspection and Quarantine Service of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing (AQSIQ) to Spain, specifically to the farms and cold storage facilities registered in the specific record created by the MAGRAMA for this purpose. The goal of these visits, which started on Monday 20 June, is to check the compliance of the requirements set by the protocol.
