A cooler day is forecast today with temperatures feeling like 46°C at their peak across the country.

Winds will pick up by the afternoon and blow dust over open areas of the country, decreasing visibility.

Muggy conditions and increased humidity is forecast for the rest of the week, according to the National Centre of Meteology and Seismology.

Humidity levels will rise to 90 per cent in coastal areas, and will hover between 65 and 80 per cent inland, causing fog on Tuesday morning.

The highest temperature recorded in the country on Monday was 48.9°C in Umm Az Zumul.

Seas are expected to turn rough due to strong winds in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman.
