It all started in 1971 when Penny Patterson, a psychologist at Stanford University, took over care of the baby gorilla, Koko, who was very ill at that time.
When Koko grew up to become an adult gorilla, they had to separate them.
Once retrieved, Penny asked permission to keep in touch with Koko for purposes of psychological research.
Throughout their relationship Koko and Penny taught to communicate by sign language.
And always read children ‘s books to the gorilla , especially those who had starred other animals.
And it was there that KOKO adopted “All Ball” her first cat. Sadly “All Ball” died, and Koko cried to indicate that she knew her cat would not wake up.
But she received a tremendous surprise last year for her birthday, Penny and her team gave Koko a box of kittens and told her she could choose two to adopt.
Koko said the word “cat” and the word “baby”; also the words “put on the head”
Koko always wanted to have a baby, and now she has two adorable cats!
Making her a happy gorilla!
