The desert is set to welcome a hotel complete with an artificial – but sand-free – beach and a rainforest.
The Rosemont Hotel & Residences Dubai, designed by ZAS Architects, is slated to feature a giant manmade outdoor rainforest with a beach and stream and trees that spray mist to water the other plants.
By 2018, visitors should be able to get a fully immersive experience by seeing the flora and fauna from the ground of the rainforest all the way to the canopy—and by getting misted by the “sensory rain system,” which will simulate “the sensation of being surrounded by rainfall without actually getting wet.”
The supersized terrarium set amongst the twin skyscraper towers will use only recycled water collected from condensation.
Of course, this is Dubai, so a simple rainforest isn’t enough – visitors will also be able to go on a thrill ride by flying through the rainforest strapped into a harness and attached to a cable wire.
Upon stepping into the lobby, guests will find themselves beneath a ceiling with an ever-changing 3D projection to trick them into thinking they’re either inside a lush rainforest, underwater paradise and everything in between.
After a long day in the jungle, you can chill out by the pool that boasts skyline views, indulge in spa services, take in a movie at the onsite theatre, dine in one of the top-notch restaurants, play a few rounds in the bowling alley, or go skydiving – in a simulator, that is.
The resort will also have a cantilevered infinity sky pool with a glass bottom, plus a nightclub and high-tech gaming entertainment.
