Environment Minister Mohammad Mashnouq said today that “the campaign targeting him over the issue of garbage is evidence of lack of awareness, because the Ministry of Environment is not the one responsible for this file; it is rather the duty of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities.”

“It is not enough for civil society and environmental activists to issue communiqués. They have to work with the municipalities and the municipal unions on the process of sorting at source and recycling and so on,” he said.

The Minister of Environment made these remarks at a conference held by Fransabank at Le Royal Hotel to sign a memorandum on financing sustainable energy projects and to raise awareness and stimulate a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
“We are responsible for the assessment of environmental impact studies, but we endured all the accusations,” Mashnouq said, uttering commitment to safeguarding Lebanon’s environment by all possible means.
