Repair and restoration works in the flooded areas in Russia’s Far East are nearing an end, the department of the civil protection of the Primorsky Krai said on Monday.

“Main repair and restoration work are currently entering their final stage. Only one settlement remains transport communication with which is problematic. Seventeen kilometers of road and nine bridges remain damaged,” the department said. Over 5,800 gardens and 173 kilometers of roads were cleared, and nearly 2,000 cubic meters of debris were taken out, the department added.

There are no new threats of flooding, and water levels are down in all rivers in the region. “Over the last 24 hours, water levels went down in the Bolshaya Ussurka River in the Dalnerechensky district, the Bikin river near the Krasny Yar settlement in the Pozharsky district,” the department said adding that “water levels are expected to go down by 0.5 meters per day in the next three days.”

The local administration told TASS that after repair and restoration work is completed, disaster relief programs will kick in. They will continue until the autumn of 2017. The Russian government will allocate almost two billion rubles from the federal budget.

Typhoon Lionrock hit the Russian Far East after the powerful cyclone brought torrential rains on August 29-31, with three-month’s rainfall. The state of emergency was declared in the region. On September 4-6, another typhoon, Nemtheun, brought even more rains to the region.

According to Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov, over 40 settlements were flooded, including 4,500 houses with population of 14,000 people; 43 settlements were cut off from the land; communication was disrupted with 18 settlements. The rains affected 10,500 hectares of agricultural land, 70 bridges, over 200 kilometers of roads.
