Sunday the 23rd of October 2016, will be a cleanup day for Litani River.

In a conference hosted by the Lebanese Press Club in Beirut, MP Ali Fayyad said that the event is one part of a multi-step program aimed at cleaning up the bed and banks of the river and its tributaries.

Cleaning up the river, that has always been a source of fresh water, will be done by a number of organizations and municipalities in the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon.

On the 27th of September, Lebanese Minister of Environment, Mohammad Mashnouq, confirmed that his Ministry would soon bring into effect a roadmap to cleanse highly defiled Litani river. Mashnouq indicated that the plan would be executed in 165 towns.

The World Bank in July approved a $55-million loan to preserve the Litani and the man-made Qaraoun Lake.
