Journalism disclosure and reporting of environmental damage plays a fundamental role in changing social circumstances and build a common place, so the National Award for Journalistic Disclosure Sustainability (PNDPS) recognized journalistic work in sustainability as an element of development towards comprehensive wellness and Northwest awarded to journalists and TV UNAM.

In more than a hundred written and audiovisual projects evaluated by their narrative and social impact, journalists Gabriela Soto and Francisco Cuamea the newspaper Noroeste were awarded in the category written report with the investigation “Ohuira, a reserve threatened by influyentismo”.

The research reported the construction of an ammonia plant in one of the most important environmental reserves of Mexico, located in the state of Sinaloa. The report got political activists and rise up the word about the damage to the ecological zone that also affects its population.

In the category audiovisual report, the journalist Aleida Rueda TV UNAM was awarded the “Ecosystems and Fire” project.In it he denounced the damage generated daily to natural sites and how it affects species and wear earth.

In addition, the jury also assessed their own gender reporting features, management scientific sources of information, research, originality and appropriate use of language, recognized with honorable mention in the report written Ivan Carillo with his work “Tequila, one love story “and the audiovisual Alberto Tinoco Guadarrama category and Benito Sanchez Rojo with the report” Sharks, close encounters. ”

The jury was composed scientists, researchers, academics, journalists and members of civil society, including Martha Delgado, Director General of the Climate Global Cities Covenant on PENSAR Foundation Secretariat; Gabriela Frías, producer and presenter on CNN News; Norma Patricia Muñoz, scientific coordinator for Mexico Observatory of Oceans and Coasts Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Horacio Salazar, editorial director at Promotora Agency Publications, the publishing subsidiary of Millennium Group books.

In 2010 the PNDPS is created as a partnership between the School of Journalism Carlos Septien Garcia and Mexican Coca-Cola Industry to promote journalistic work in sustainability.
