The first building in Europe fully made with a 3D printer will be held next year in the Netherlands. The construction of 90 m2 and a cost of 375,000 euros, about $ 118 407 000, consist of a small meeting room luxury hotel De Slaapfabriek is located in Teuge town in the Dutch province of Gelderland.

De Vergaderfabriek jobs, as called this building and it means “factory meetings” are scheduled to begin in July 2017 and could be completed in just 10 days. “We wanted to go a step further and build a meeting room where our clients could make presentations and corporate events, but also a special project with an iconic and sustainable design,” he told EFE one of the owners of De Slaapfabriek, Arvid Prigge.

“We realized that a project was too expensive and explored the possibility of experimenting with 3D printing technology to make the imagined construction,” he adds. 3D printing materials such as concrete produces less carbon emissions than any other traditional form, and if successful, could pave the way for “a new paradigm printing environmentally 3D environment,” says Prigge. This project “is really revolutionary” because it will reduce by 40% CO2 emissions and 75 percent reduction of construction waste.

Furthermore, the material to be used for printing is recycled origin who converted to De Vergaderfabriek in the first building in the world with virtually no environmental consequences. A pilot project in which they are involved architects, construction companies and 3D technology, but also the City Council of the Municipality of Voorst, responsible for “supervising that meet the quality standards”, together with the scientific Department of the University of Eindhoven which is responsible for reviewing the construction is possible in practice.

The interior of the new facility will not be a “simple and boring meeting” because the design will recreate an inspiring environment through smells, sounds and images aims to “inspire people” and “change their mindset and attitude.” A team of psychologists and researchers analyze the impact and how stimuli color, image, sound and smell affect moods. “We want to check if it really works, so we measure on how far the environment and helps to improve the quality of life of users,” says Prigge.

In this sense, De Slaapfabriek work with groups of people affected with mental illness to see if this concept interior is able to improve or even reduce this type of psychological problems. A “really new” project to become a reality show that through 3D technology can work in a new direction able to “reinvent the way we build” and “cut costs and efforts.
