Minister of Environment Tariq Khatib signed the first 60 fishing licenses, the first of the land-based licenses given since 1996, when the Council of Ministers issued a decree banning wild fishing on all Lebanese lands. It is also the first time since 1996, in which legal and official fishing is allowed under law No. 449/1 issued by the Minister of Environment on 1/6/2017, which provides for the opening of the hunting season for the year 2017 and the identification of the allowed catch.
The Minister of Environment reiterated fishing only during the hunting season of September 15, 2017 until the end of January 2018, and only for the types and numbers of allowed game, and the need to obtain a formal license for wild hunting issued by the Ministry of Environment.
