Where are the Lebanese’ hearts today?

Is it that our hearts praise the creator due to the beautiful nature, the natural forests, the beach, and wild flowers?

Or is it that our hearts are with the green dollars that tempt us, so we buy cars, clothes, and hookahs, by destroying what we have inherited from our ancestors, or selling it for investment projects?

A full year has passed for the largest forest fire in Lebanon that hit Wadi Chahrour area- Batchay – Baabda- Yarzeh…

What has changed since a year?
Was a contingency plan put, in order to prevent the recurring of what happened?
Have the Municipalities been prepared with equipment and training?
Was the civil society given any awareness session, in order to monitor and support?
Was the one who caused the fire punished?

Since I have been taking care of the Khandak Rihban forest in Baabda since 20 years ago, along with my friends in the Earth-Lebanon Association, I have not heard of any activity or plan that would make us feel that the rest of the green areas will be safe this year.

Leaders, where are your hearts?
If the issue was material, we would have heard about an austerity policy that would stop the mounting of the public debt,

But every week, we hear of loans for asphalt and concrete projects that are worth millions of dollars.

While the project of monitoring and controlling the fires, and stopping them as soon as they are started, does not exceed a few thousand dollars for each forest, and it includes an electronic device that bears a reservoir, a pump, and individual equipment that includes shovels, water sprinklers on the back, masks, and communication devices…

Where are your hearts dear Lebanese?
Why do young men get killed to protect the Earth? In order to burn it and sell it as real estate projects?
It seems that the hearts need medication, in order for the environment to heal.

Hoping that our hearts will beat for our country; our only treasure… for us and for our children.
