ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A huge fire which had torched nearly two hundred hectares of forests and pastures in the Pawa and Javanrud areas in East Kurdistan, or Iranian Kurdistan, has finally been extinguished.
The fire had initially broken out from the border areas of Pawa and later travelled to Javanrud.

The fire was brought under control by civil defense teams, volunteers and environmental activists after three days.

General Manager of the Kermanshah Natural Resources says more than 170 hectares of pasture and forests in the areas have caught fire, damaging a myriad of livestock and birds in the regions.

According to an environment protection institution, forests in the province caught fire 10 to 12 times this year.
