Crabs won’t be the only thing steaming at the 2017 St. Tammany Crab Festival being held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 9-10) at Heritage Park in Olde Towne Slidell on the North Shore. The two-day lineup features top-name entertainment, the Mr. Crabs Car Show, BMX stunt show, boat rides, and a variety of Southern specialties from popular vendors.
Festival admission is $20 per day, with children 12 and younger admitted free.
A BMX Stunt Bike and Rollerblade Show will be presented both days of the festival at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Mr. Crabs Car Show will be held Sept. 9 and will spotlight more than 100 hot wheels, with all proceeds benefiting 2-year-old Raelyn Copeland, who is battling cystic fibrosis. Registration is $25 per car, starting at 9 a.m. Judging will begin at 1 p.m., and an awards program is set for 4 p.m. All entries will receive a show poster. Thirty-minute boat rides on the picturesque Bayou Bonfouca that borders Heritage Park will be offered for $10 per person. Children, 5 and younger, will be free. Each child must be accompanied by an adult.
The top draw of the weekend will be a musical lineup including Darcy Malone & The Tangle, Amanda Shaw, Rockin’ Dopsie Jr., Leo Nocentelli with a guest appearance by Cyril Neville, New Rebel Family, Category 6, Voodoo Gumbo, Big Al & The Heavyweights, Bobbie Rae, Pokey, Tucka, and AL B.
