DUBAI: The Dubai Women’s Association is a successful model which has been doing very well as a strategic partner in sustainable development in serving the cause of the woman, motherhood, and childhood for the past four decades.

Sheikha Amina Bint Humaid Al Tayer, President of Dubai Women’s Association, spoke on the great achievements of Emirati women since the establishment of the General Women’s Union, besides the huge efforts rendered by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE.

“We are so proud to thank HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid when he said ‘woman is the spirit of the place and placed into the soul’ that has been an immortal phrase and become a mark of quality and excellence for women.”

She indicated that she was proud of Emirati women who had successfully joined the highest positions in the three key wings of government: executive, legislative and judicial, in addition to their prominent presence in the Arab, regional, and international feminist forums and spheres of activity.

Dubai Women’s Association has introduced the first female environmental code of conduct in the world that came up in collaboration with other feminist associations and foundations in the UAE and was elevated by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, in line with the celebrations of the 15th National Environment Day on Feb.4, 2012 under the slogan ‘Desert is Alive.’

Dubai Women’s Association has got three main branches, including Lisili, Hatta, and Khawaneej, since the vision of the association is to cover more areas of the city. The oldest branch was established in Khawaneej in 1988 and there is a new building which will be inaugurated at the end of 2017.

The Hatta branch, which was established in 1990, is keen on increasing the awareness level of the woman and the whole family to support the development of childhood and motherhood community. The branch has organised various initiatives, including: child club, idea and innovation, Hajj programme, and ‘Barakt Al Bait’ initiative for the elderly.

The Lisili branch, established in 2000, is looking forward to strengthen relations with other bodies, as it has a very special community partnership atmosphere.

The association has scored unforgettable achievements such as: the group wedding, a diploma in motherhood and family sciences, successful marriage programme, and is the first woman’s association that has introduced a special diploma in fashion.

It has published various publications and books such as ‘Woman and Union’, the first book in the UAE that focuses on documenting the cultural gains that women have received in the union of the United Arab Emirates. And it was dedicated to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, when he visited the association in January 10, 2007.

Also, ‘Successful Marriage’ is the first book in the UAE to spotlight the role of a successful marriage and it was dedicated to His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, during one of the Sharjah International Book Fair editions.

There is also the Al Nahda magazine, which highlights issues of motherhood and family and activities done by the association.
