On the adoption of the ‘’National Day of Turtles’’, a minister in the government did not find words to say, he only joked, as if something requires the ridicule because we are maintaining a normal life and a bio- diversity.
The Ridicule of this minister reflects the awareness of some of those in power about the environmental issues, and their minor presence in foreseeing the future challenges from the side of the environment as a national and a global issue. As well as that there is a problem in Lebanon related to the nature of the sectarian system, and the non-ability of the “green parties” to be in the circle of light and to act more than preparing statements and holding meetings and conferences. Contrary to what happen in Europe: the Green parties are a voter’s force which is able to correct the wrong path of the environment (for example: the Green Party in Germany). And even beyond that, some of these parties were able to outweigh the conflict in the democratic process between the forces of the left and right, for example, in the sense that they will vote for those who pay a greater importance for the environment issues.
Environment parties in the West have imposed a presence despite the “money cartels” that are capable for the distortion and falsification of the facts, like the oil companies and the capital Wild that are indifferent to the exhaustion of Earth’s resources. These environment parties formed a pressure tools and bring a lot of gains, and the environment become a culture and a life approach. We are so far from these challenges, with the extinction of many species of birds, plants and trees, as well as we are losing the paths of migratory birds. many environmentalists experts confirmed for ‘’greenarea’’ that the migratory birds, and as a result of their exposure to genocide over the years, are changing The course of their migration, and this explains the decline in swarms and numbers of birds cross over Lebanon, and this also means that we are in the process of the loss of a very important wealth especially in the field of eco-tourism.
The countries are working on the restoration of the ecological balance and facing the agricultural pests by invoking their natural enemies, like what was made by Cyprus from several days ago, when it announced that it had decided to bring owl birds snakes to protect the ‘’carob trees’’, and they built nests to help the “White Owl” in the nesting and breeding for the protection from the carob trees enemies , because these trees are considered as one of the most important natural and economic resources in the Mediterranean island. We, in Lebanon, are joking because of declaring a national day of turtles that are threatened with extinction.
In a neutral and impartial approach, and if we make a comparison between the marine turtle and what it give us from free services in the elimination of “jellyfish” that breed on our shores because of the decline in the number of sea turtles, and what this minister is doing for us, We find that the tortoise has more importance and its role is crucial in the environmental balance and its absence may lead to many consequent disasters.
The minister invoked a comparison between him and the tortoise, to announce publicly our sympathy with the world of turtles.
