Muscat –

Eshraqa, Khimji Ramdas Social Development Arm, continued its tradition of excellence and Oman’s winning streak at the 17th regional Inter-College Environmental Public Speaking Competition in Dubai, with two of four teams professionally trained by the Khimji Training Institute, securing second and third places at the event held in Dubai recently.

Along with that, Eshraqa commemorated Omani Environment Day by making a generous contribution to Environmental Society of Oman; the funds will be allocated towards capacity building programmes that allow young Omani graduates to be hired and trained in the field of environment conservation.

Nailesh Khimji, director of Khimji Ramdas, said, “I would like to congratulate all the teams for doing our country proud by putting up such an amazing performance that testified to their stellar speaking skills and in-depth knowledge of the environment.

“We proud that the teams trained by Khimji Training Institute have consistently emerged victorious at the regionals, each year, thanks to the dedication to our professionals who impart their experience, expertise and knowledge. As a stalwart supporter of Oman’s youth and the environment, we take it upon ourselves to groom talented young Omanis to play significant roles in the country’s economic development and in the conservation of environment.”

“It is always fulfilling to be part of a larger goal that serves a noble cause such as that of environment protection and conservation. With each passing year, we can see participants fully engaged and enthusiastic about championing for the environment,” said Nadeem Ahmed, head of Khimji Training Institute.

Teams trained by KTI have been winning the contest at the regional level over the last three years, consecutively. Khimji Ramdas Social Development Arm, Eshraqa, sponsored the national speaking contest organised by the Environment Society of Oman, taking the four winning teams under its wing in preparation of the regionals that were held towards the end of November.

The initiative falls under Eshraqa’s key founding pillar of ‘Education’ that seeks to unlock and optimise learning opportunities for Omani youth in collaboration with the government.

The team from Higher College of Technology won second place for the theme, ‘People and the Planet: Finding a Sustainable Balance’, and the team from Ibri College of Technology secured third place for the theme ‘Quality Education: Roadmap to Sustainable Development’. Along with six others, they competed against 69 others from colleges and universities across the Middle East and North Africa.
